I was required to draw information graphics to accompany news stories of the day. I am used to working under pressure starting and finishing a project on the same day. I have also worked on longer projects. My work demands me to be flexible due to daily changes in work load. I find the work exciting, as I never know what I am doing from one day to the next. The Daily Mail is known as the toughest newspaper to work for on Fleet Street and maybe the world. I have learned to be fast and accurate in my work. I left to be with my family in Germany. I am able to use a wide range of graphics software including: Adobe Illustrator CS6, Quark, Indesign CS6, and Photoshop CS6. I have learned to work in a team and on my own. I am able to make good use of the internet for researching projects. I am used to having my graphics appear online on a regular basis. I am able to deal with people over the phone.
After thirteen years working in newspapers and magazines I am looking for a new challenge. I want to further my career by widening my knowledge of the industry by taking on new duties and learning new skills.
Graphic Artist | Daily Mail newspaper August 2002 - August 2013
Graphic Artist | The Economist
October 1997 – October 2000
This was my first proper job and there I really learned the ropes of the business as well as how to deal with research, administration and editors. Drawing diagrams, maps and charts for the worldwide publication.
Graphic Artist | Business AM Newspaper October 2000 - October 2001
Though the paper seemed doomed to fail from the start Business AM was a great paper. Based in Edinburgh it had very high design values, winning best designed paper in its first year of operation, sadly the readership numbers were disappointing and it was not too long before the paper was wound up. This was where I learned a lot about the industry and while there I was given the opportunity to expand my knowledge into new areas and learn new skills.
